Sel Roti

In our community any sort of celebration or any other social gathering is almost impossible without ‘Sel Roti’.

Sel Roti is a homemade traditional sweet bread which is prepared to celebrate not only festivals like dashain ( durga puja), tihaar (diwali) or teej , but also any other social gatherings which involves the community to come together. In short no festival of ours is complete without ‘Sel Roti’.

Sel Roti is not only prepared by the Nepalese people residing in the country of Nepal, but is also equally prepared & enjoyed by the Nepali speaking community residing in different parts of India. Sel Roti is always prepared in huge quantity & is often exchanged as gifts in between friends & family.

Since Sel Roti is always being prepared in bulk, I have never since anyone at my place preparing it in the kitchen which we normally use for our day to day cooking, but a thatch kitchen which was build adjacent to our house is used to prepare Sel Roti. One reason why I think the thatch kitchen was used cause of the amount of oil involved during the making of the Rotis. 10693679_1555103254705289_1426049513_n

Sel Roti goes well with almost anything, be it chicken or mutton curry, paneer, dal or the traditional  sesame acchar which I shall blog about soon. I however like having Sel Roti with tea.
